havoc and prodigy shared the same publicist. their story resonated with people who came from the west coast. havoc and prodigy would be one of the great east coast hip-hop duos. was born christopher wallace in 1970 in brooklyn, the son of a jamaican mother and an american father. Havoc was born mario smith in hollis queens in may of 1974. havoc was always trying to do something different, to try to say something different. before that i was like, how can you have a job recording beats and you cant do any rapping? you have to be able to rap, to do that. thats exactly the point where i saw something different about havoc. their sound was definitely slower and more underground. their rhymes were a bit more sophisticated, but still a little clumsy. the one difference was they had a song called hit it from the back, which was a hit single and something of a mild standard. this time, it was a totally different experience for the duo. Their second album paid in full was released in may of 1993, a year after the release of juvenile hell. he was immediately featured on jay-zs slim to none and the curent single what i like about you, and landed a radio single with shawnelle j’s the way you do it on hot 97’s rap attack. havoc, for a brief moment, had something of a star quality. although the album was a bust, it did afford havoc the opportunity to showcase his rhyming ability on such numbers as follow the leader. their rhyming was rudimentary at best, but the album was defiantly street-oriented with some great background vocals from havocs homegirl, the late faith evans.
